About Thomas Gordon Hake

Thomas Gordon Hake (1809–1895) was an English physician and poet associated with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. A close friend of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Hake’s poetry was admired by Rossetti, Swinburne, and other leading Victorian literary figures. His selection of 27 poems, with a prefatory note by Alice Meynell and a portrait by Rossetti, represents the core of his poetic achievement.
