Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832) was a Scottish historical novelist, poet, and playwright. He is considered one of the greatest figures of Romantic literature, known for creating the historical novel genre with works like Waverley, Ivanhoe, and Rob Roy. His narrative poem The Lady of the Lake (1810) was a massive popular success and helped popularize the Scottish Highlands as a tourist destination.
